Kanye West’s A.P.C. clothing sells out and crashes site
Only Kanye West could cause a fashion frenzy and crash a website by releasing a $120 plain white T-shirt.
Just weeks after welcoming his first child and releasing his latest album, Yeezus, Kanye West has hit another milestone. His capsule collection for clothing line A.P.C. sold out pretty much as soon as it debuted Sunday.
The capsule collection was so popular it even crashed the fashion line’s website.
The collection consists of just a few pieces — two pairs of jeans, several hoodies and some T-shirts — and retails for $120 to $280. According to People, A.P.C. has restocked some items and is accepting pre-orders for other sold-out items through Wednesday.
Meanwhile, A.P.C.’s founder Jean Touitou has spoken about the partnership with Mr West, saying:
“When you deal with a guy who wants to redesign just about anything so it could fit [into the] kingdom of dopeness, it takes some time to just sit and say, ‘Okay, agreed, but let’s get start on something limited, and we’ll see’,” admitted Touitou rather candidly.
The Frenchman also wasn’t blinded by Kanye’s god complex or indeed ‘Kingdom of Dopeness’: “I am not into the celebrity thing. The only celebrities who impress me are writers. I follow no god, no celeb, no master, no myth.”
Adding to that a not-so-subtle stab at Kanye’s fashion aspirations – “Fashion killed rock and roll. Fashion killed contemporary art, and turned it vulgar. And if hip-hop artists are not careful it will also kill hip hop”.
