Dr. Maya Angelou Dies, Aged 86

Award winning author, poet and civil rights activist Dr. Maya Angelou has died at the age of 86, EyesandVoice can confirm.

Mayor Allen Joines of Winston-Salem this stated that she was found at home by her care taker this (Wednesday) morning.

Maya had reportedly been suffering from health problems and recently cancelled a number of scheduled appearences including the 2014 MLB Beacon Award Luncheon, where she was to be honoured on May 30 in Houston.

Angelou was one of the worlds most beloved authors and is best known for her book ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings‘ which was released in 1969.

In her life-time she had received over fifty honorary degrees and had been honoured with awards including the Mother Teresa Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award.
