Day 1: Bedfordshire Music & Fashion Week 2014 Recap
Last night (23 October) saw the launch of the first ever Bedfordshire Music & Fashion Week at Luton’s Carnival Arts Centre.
Up and coming fashion designers and models took the catwalk to showcase their unique designs to an enthusiastic audience. Kick starting the fashion trends was designer Pasya who presented her raunchy attire, which was later described as ”wearable art” by some…
In a stark contrast to the risqué nature of Pasya’s designs, relatively new designer Lisha Gill showcased her knitting skills and presented outfits that one could make at home if they wish to!
International influences were also on full show this evening as the Beaumont Boutique presented a greek inspired dress collection, Spanish-born Ingrid Bratt brought a unique fierceness to her designs (which would definitely not be suitable to wear during the day…) and Maya Miko brought the African spirit to her bright and positive designs.
Bliss Studio Textiles were also in attendance and featured a Shakesperian influence when showcasing their dress designs throughout the show.
Designer Attu presented their Katutu styles to the audience and introduced both male and female models to their show, which no doubt when down a treat to some members of the crowd!
A big theme of the evening was how fashion influences music and vice versa. In between catwalk shows, the event featured live performances from multiple singers. Luton based Samara, 18 covered Pharrell’s ‘Happy‘ and Rihanna’s ‘Stay’ and performed her own self-penned track ‘Let’s Party‘.
We were also treated to a performance by Laura Jae whose singles featured a cool and mysterious aura towards the styling and lyrics. The nights headlining act was the very talented Hayley Cassidy who performed multiple tracks including a cover of Sam Smith’s ‘I’m Not the Only One‘ and ‘Beyond the Sun‘ which is taken from her album ‘Stripped‘ (available to download for free on http://www.hayleycassidy.com).
The Bedfordshire Music & Fashion Weeks continues tonight (Friday October 24th) and
Saturday 25th October at the Luton Carnival Arts Centre.
