Things We Learnt From The 57th Grammy Awards Nominations

Grammys 2015 EV

So the 57th annual Grammy Award nominations have finally been revealed and Beyoncé, Sam Smith and Pharrell Williams lead the way with six nominations each!

As always the nominations list are always are a subject of controversy and high opinion, but shouldn’t we be use to this by now?

Whether or not your favourite artist got nominated there were certainly some interesting facts to be taken from yesterdays grand reveal.

Beyoncé is the most nominated female in Grammy history!

Yes you have read that right! With six nominations this year the Queen B has upped her total tally to an impressive 52 nominations. The previous record holder was Country music queen Dolly Parton who has had 46 nominations throughout her long career. Since 2001 Beyoncé has won 17 Grammy Awards which places her third amongst female artists for the most wins in history. Bluegrass/Country singer Alison Krauss has 26 Grammys to her name, while the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin has 18.

Katy Perry returns for a sixth consecutive attempt…

There is no doubt that Katy Perry is one of the worlds leading pop stars. She’s had dozens of number one singles, sold out tours, become a fashionista and is even headlining next years Super Bowl halftime performance. However a Grammy Award winner she is still not…… awkward! Best of luck Katy, you’ll surely need it (again).

Collaborative albums & singles prove their worth yet again!

As mentioned in my previous post, 2014 has been the year of duets, hook-ups and acclaim amongst the music industry. Thanks to their well-received and timed releases Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Toni Braxton, Babyface, Jennifer Hudson, R. Kelly, Christina Aguilera and Mary J. Blige all return to the Grammy’s good graces. This helps prove that teamwork can still go a long way in time for award season!

Poor #ARTPOP

Not that we’re surprised or anything about its shut out at next years ceremony, but who would of thought two or three years ago that Gaga would drop so drastically from Grammy favour? Thank goodness Tony Bennett answered her calls and gave her some attention and recognition in time for next years bash…

Beyoncé is a Surround Sound Producer too!

Singer, Actress, Dancer, Songwriter, Model, Entrepreneur, Designer, Internet Breaker, Wife, Daughter, Mother and now a Surround Sound Producer… is there no end to Mrs. Carter’s talents? Joking aside Beyoncé is officially credited as a producer in the Surround Sound album category! I mean when will your surround sound faves be nominated?

The art of having a ‘personal‘ album…

If there is one overused description I am tired of hearing when artists are describing their album it’s the word personal. Don’t get me wrong we believe you but isn’t every album personal in one way or another? Or is this a key word that convinces people to buy your music? Whatever it is it seems to be working for Grammy voters as personal artists, songs and composers such as Sam Smith, Sia, Eminem and er Meghan Trainor all share multiple nominations each.

A snub is still a snub

It doesn’t matter how long you have been in the industry, how many Grammy’s you have won already or how big your single was this year, if you’re snubbed then you’re snubbed. This (sadly) seems the case for the likes of Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Maroon 5 and for singles such as ‘Loyal‘ (Chris Brown) and even ‘Say Yes‘ (poor Michelle). At the end of the day you can’t please everyone!
