The 57th Annual Grammy Awards Predictions

57th Grammy Awards Predictions EV

The 57th Annual Grammy Awards are taking place this evening and now it’s time to get our prediction game on!

Due to the fact that there are eighty-three (!) different categories to be awarded and that there is simply not enough time (or patience) to predict all of them I have narrowed it down to the ten most important (or relevant to me) categories. So lets go…

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

I have to stick to my initial choice all year round and that is ‘Beyoncé‘. The way in which this LP was released was revolutionary and most importantly the accompanying songs and visuals more than back up its claim for Album of the Year. However please don’t count out Sam Smith for a win and the impressive acclaim that Beck has for ‘Morning Phase‘.

SONG OF THE YEAR

I can see Grammy voters going with either ‘Stay with Me‘ by Sam Smith or ‘Chandelier’ by Sia. These songs feature personal lyrics on the more serious side and it help validates the songwriting element of this category.

RECORD OF THE YEAR

Instead of a Song of the Year repeat, I’m gonna go with a bold prediction in this category and award it to Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It off‘. Whether your a fan or not we can’t deny how catchy (and successful) this song was. However don’t be surprised if Sam Smith grabs this one as well…

BEST NEW ARTIST

If there is one speech Sam Smith should prepare it is this one! Yes we get it he is winning a few Grammys tonight and compared to the fellow nominees in this category (Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clark & HAIM) Sam seems like the safest choice.

BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM

Guess who? Yeah Sam Smith (I know, I know…) but this seems like a sure thing. Miley & Ariana’s nominations are wins somewhat in a way for them. Coldplay are not full pop and Katy Perry will win a Grammy one day… just not in this category (this year at least). To be honest with all the Sam Smith love so far I would be more than happy for Ed Sheeran to be awarded for his ‘x’ album.

BEST R&B ALBUM

I have to go with a passion vote on this one. My pick for this award is ‘Love, Marriage & Divorce‘ by Toni Braxton & Babyface. In my opinion it was the best R&B album of 2014 and it was a return to form for the nineties hit makers. If I could get any prediction right I would love it to be this one!

BEST POP/DUO PERFORMANCE

The toughest category for me because ANYONE could take this award! Coldplay are Grammy favourites, A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera have the critical acclaim, ‘Fancy‘ and ‘Dark Horse‘ were two of the biggest hits of last year and ‘Bang Bang‘ was one of the biggest collaborations. Hmm… I’m going to throw my support to ‘Dark Horse‘ so go Katy and finally get that elusive Grammy! Before it becomes even more awkward.

BEST URBAN/CONTEMPORARY ALBUM

Beyoncé‘. Maybe Pharrell…. but Beyoncé!

BEST RAP ALBUM

For the lols I wanna say Iggy Azalea but the smart choice is Eminem’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2‘. Let’s face it was a good album and Eminem is a five-time winner in this category. It’s a safe choice I know but it’s the Grammy’s after all! Just imagine the meltdowns (not from me) if Iggy won though…

BEST MUSIC VIDEO

For me this is between ‘Happy‘ by Pharrell Williams and ‘Chandelier‘ by Sia. Both these videos went viral for different reasons. One celebrated the gift of happiness while the other showed a story of a persons past struggles. For the artistry Sia might just take it but for the overall video vibe I would be more than satisfied with a Pharrell win.
