ITV Picks Up The Voice UK

It’s official!

Ever since the BBC announced that the 2016 series of ‘The Voice UK‘ would be the last to air on its station, it has been speculated that rival broadcaster ITV would happily snap up the rights to the programme.

Well the presumption is now indeed true as they have announced that they have now signed a three-year deal to air the show from 2017 onwards. Speaking on the big move ITV’s Director of Television Peter Fincham shared that,

“ITV is the natural home of big entertainment, so we are thrilled that  The Voice  and  The Voice Kids  are both joining our family alongside brilliant shows like  The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, Saturday Night Takeaway  and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here .”

Furthermore Elaine Bedell who is ITV’s director of entertainment and comedy adds that,

From the compelling blind auditions, through to the nail-biting battle rounds, knockouts and live shows,  The Voice  has become a worldwide sensation and we are very much looking forward to its arrival on ITV in 2017.”

The move appears to be a smart one for the channel as it’s current flagship singing competition ‘The X Factor‘ is suffering from an all time ratings low and is easily being defeated by BBC rival ‘Strictly Come Dancing‘ each weekend. Should the show decided to end within the next couple of years, ITV have already secured a replacement with ‘The Voice‘ franchise.

As with most ITV entertainment programmes ‘The Voice UK‘ will get a spin-off show on ITV2 and furthermore a kids version (which as already been tested in multiple countries) will air (presumably) on CITV.

The fifth series of ‘The Voice UK‘ will air (on the BBC) in early 2016 and will feature will.i.am, Ricky Wilson, Paloma Faith and Boy George as coaches. Emma Willis and Marvin Humes will once again host the series.

It has not been confirmed whether any of these coaches or hosts will move to ITV in 2017. But Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson has already hinted that this upcoming series (his third) will be his last.
