NEWS: Jay Z’s Music Label, Roc Nation Sues Rita Ora
[EYES AND VOICE] Protégé? Not any more… Jay’s record label is suing Rita Ora for $2.4 Million (£1.6m) for breaking her contract and failing to produce promised albums.
Remember some weeks backs when the news broke that Rita Ora is taking Roc Nation to court to end her recording contract with the label? And we reported to you that according to Eyes And Voice sources, and the label site, Rita Ora has left their artist roster.
Now the story has taken a messy turn. Roc Nation is now suing Rita.
The civil court case was filed in New York six weeks after the singer started legal proceedings herself against Roc Nation in Los Angeles.
Roc Nation counter sue Ora saying the record label has spent more than $2m (£1.4m) developing and marketing the singer, her career, brand and her second album, which hasn’t yet been released.
According to Eyes And Voice sources; Roc Nation says it signed Rita Ora when she was an “unknown singer” and “has tirelessly promoted [her] career, investing millions of dollars in marketing, recording and other costs, which was instrumental in guiding Ms Ora to her current level of success and fame”.
The singer’s lawyer, Howard King, said: “Jay Z has personally and graciously promised Rita complete freedom from Roc Nation, the details of which are now being finalised.
“We believe that Roc Nation’s distributor, Sony Music, has required Roc Nation to file this action to preserve whatever rights Sony might have pending resolution.”
The court case is still on-going and we will keep you updated here at EyesAndVoice.com.
