[EYES AND VOICE] “Just a boy from the hood that got my hands in the air in despair, don’t shoot,” raps Jay Z on powerful new song, Spiritual.
In the light of recent strings of white police officers shooting & killing more black males and females, Jay Z puts out a 3 minutes, 44 seconds song titled, “Spiritual” accompanied with an open letter.
Spiritual was released just hours after Jay’s wife Beyoncé issued a statement on the cold killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile at the hands of police.
In some of the lyrics of the song, Jay raps: “I am not poison,”
“Bless my soul, extend your arms, I’m cold,”
“Just a boy from the hood that got my hands in the air in despair, don’t shoot,”
Eyes And Voice learned, the song was originally recorded when Mike Brown – another victim of a police shooting – was killed back in 2014. In a letter explaining the inspiration behind the record, Jay Z stated the following:
