Beyoncé Leads 2017 Grammy Nominations
Award season is soon upon us and what a way to get it started by rolling out the Grammy nominees!
With a whopping nine nominations, Beyoncé leads the pack with including recognition in the Album of the Year category for ‘Lemonade‘ and both Record and Song of the Year for ‘Formation‘.
Having previously won twenty (!) Grammy’s in the past, she will no doubt be adding more to shelve come February 12. The rest of Lemonade’s nominations spread through multiple genre categories including pop, urban and even rock for her track ‘Don’t Hurt Yourself‘ with Jack White.
Rihanna, Drake and Kanye West are all behind her with eight nominations and Adele secures an impressive five nominations for her blockbuster album ‘25‘. Her last album ‘21′ won Album of the Year in 2012 and all signs are pointing towards a battle between her and Beyoncé in the prestigious top category.
Pop favourites including Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake, P!nk, Justin Bieber, Coldplay and even Demi Lovato all have a reason to celebrate today thanks to the nominations unveiling.
The R&B fields have the usual acclaimed artists recognised including Jill Scott, Fantasia, Lalah Hathaway, Musiq Soulchild, Maxwell, Bryson Tiller and most surprisingly Mya who secures her first nomination since 2002 (succeeding with ‘Lady Marmalade‘) in the Best R&B Album category for her album ‘Smoove Jones‘. To be honest I didn’t even know she released an album this year so for her to sneak in with a nomination ahead of many high profile mainstream and independent artists is very impressive, so congrats to her!
2017 continues to be great year for Solange thanks to her very first Grammy nomination for ‘Cranes in the Sky‘. It’s a shame the parent album ‘A Seat at the Table‘ missed out in the Urban Contemporary Album category but maybe avoiding going head to head with her sister Beyoncé was for the best in terms of gossip and competitiveness between fan bases?

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards take place on February 12 and will be hosted by James Corden.
